In 1922, in downtown New York City, Luigi D’Andrea created the world’s first ever guitar flat picks from sheets of cellulose nitrate, by hand, using heart shaped mallet dies originally used for make the little heart shaped decorations for the tops of powder puff boxes.

By 1928, Luigi had become the veritable “Henry Ford” of the guitar picks and accessory world, with a revolutionary automated production line producing flat, thumb and finger picks, setting the standards for every pick ever produced since.

That fine tradition continues to this day, with D'Andrea remaining one of the world's leading manufacturers of plectrums and other guitar accessories to this day. These bass guitar picks come from that heritage.
