The Worst Kept Secret
Share
We have all noticed over recent years that the price of everyday essentials has increased significantly. The cost of food and even water has risen considerably.
Most people have had to economise in some way - perhaps going without less essential items or cutting back on quantity. However, there is one essential that we just can't do without (even more than food and water) - we all need our guitar strings!!
Some unscrupulous online sellers have taken advantage of this and there has been a lot of counterfeit guitar strings on the market. Put simply - they are rubbish. You might notice when you fit them, when you play them, when they snap or when they rust prematurely. Many people have been caught out. These cheaply produced strings lack tone and longevity, and are a total false economy. But they do seem to have the right name on the packet (before it goes in the bin).
So how can you tell the difference between genuine and fake?
The first clue is the price - if the price looks too good to be true then it almost certainly is too good to be true. Branded strings are expensive and authorised dealers have little scope to reduce the price.
It doesn't matter if you buy your strings in a store or online - just buy them from an authorised dealer. Proper dealers get their strings direct from the manufacturer and are unlikely to stock counterfeits. Authorised dealers are usually listed on the manufacturer's website.
The only safe way to make any real saving on the cost of genuine guitar strings is to buy a bundle from an authorised dealer. Lots of manufacturers produce multipack sets such as the D'Addario 3 Packs pictured and they come with a small saving over buying individual sets.
Music Bits is an authorised dealer for all of the top brands of guitar string. We are able to supply them as full sets or multipack sets. (Even single strings if you need a replacement).
